What a packed football weekend - and even the diamond gave us headlines.

We’ll start in the Bronx, where the Blue Jays spoiled the Yankees’ night with a 7–1 win. Kevin Gausman finally snapped his winless stretch, spinning eight strong innings while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. collected four hits, including his 23rd homer. Rookie Cam Schlittler got a rude welcome in his Yankee Stadium debut, chased after just 1.2 innings, and Toronto reopened their AL East lead.

Over in Brazil, the NFL’s international spotlight didn’t disappoint. Justin Herbert and the Chargers finally ended their skid against Kansas City, taking down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs 27–21. Herbert was sharp all night - 318 yards, three touchdowns - and his late scramble iced it. Mahomes had moments but couldn’t finish drives, and the Bolts grabbed a massive divisional win in front of a star-studded crowd.

Saturday’s college slate gave us fireworks on both ends of the spectrum. No. 6 Oregon absolutely dismantled Oklahoma State 69–3, handing the Cowboys their worst loss under Mike Gundy. Dante Moore threw three touchdowns, Dakorien Moore scored twice, and the Ducks’ defense poured it on with back-to-back pick-sixes in the third quarter. Later that night, Mississippi State pulled off the shocker in Starkville. Down late, Blake Shapen hit Brenen Thompson for a 58-yard game-winner with just 30 seconds left to topple No. 12 Arizona State, 24–20. A signature win for Jeff Lebby early in his tenure.

Sunday’s NFL action brought even more drama. In Atlanta, rookie WR Emeka Egbuka stole the show for Tampa Bay. The first-rounder hauled in two scores from Baker Mayfield, including the go-ahead TD with under a minute to play, lifting the Buccaneers past the Falcons 23–20. Atlanta’s Michael Penix Jr. answered with a marathon drive and late rushing TD, but Younghoe Koo’s missed field goal sealed it.

Up in New Jersey, Aaron Rodgers made a triumphant Steelers debut against his former team. The 41-year-old tossed four touchdown passes and led a late drive capped by Chris Boswell’s 60-yard bomb to beat the Jets 34–32. Rodgers spread the ball around, while Justin Fields flashed for New York but came up just short in the closing minutes.

From blowouts to thrillers, this weekend had it all - statement wins, upset specials, and plenty of drama to kick off the season.
