Last night Sports Corner Daily had a rough night with our selections, going 1-3 overall. On the ice last night, The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Minnesota Wild 5-3. Our Wild +1.5 pick looked to be in a good place heading into the third period as it was a tie game 3-3. Unfortunately for our pick, the Oilers scored 2 unanswered goals in the third period securing the victory and killing our pick. Edmonton has now won 3 straight games and 7 out of the last 8. 

In some college basketball action, we had three selections. Sports Corner Daily had the right pick in the Rhode Island vs Loyola Chicago game, as Loyola won the game 81-77 and covered our +5 pick. Rhode Island falls to 13-4 overall but have struggled to start conference play, sitting at 2-3 in those games. Holy Cross lost to Bucknell 86-82, hitting the over 135 in the game pretty easily. In a game that was projected to be a low scoring game, it turned out to be a shootout with both teams scoring some of their highest point totals for the season so far. Caleb Kenney for Holy Cross led all scorers in the game with 23 points. Finally in our last pick for the night, we saw Florida State pull off the upset over the Pittsburgh Panthers 82-70. Pittsburgh had been playing well lately, winning 5 in a row but are now losers in 3 straight games. FSU guard Jamir Watkins had a great game, scoring 26 points in just 23 minutes of gametime. Both teams now sit at 12-5 overall and 3-3 in ACC conference play so far.

The Columbus Blue Jackets are well-positioned to secure a victory at home tonight against the struggling San Jose Sharks. The Sharks have one of the league’s worst records, allowing 3.9 goals per game while averaging just 2.3 goals offensively. Columbus has shown improvement on home ice, winning three of their last five games, with key contributions from Johnny Gaudreau (48 points) and Boone Jenner (20 goals). San Jose’s unreliable goaltending, with save percentages below .900, further tilts the matchup in favor of the Blue Jackets. Columbus’s defensive structure and ability to exploit San Jose’s weaknesses make them the stronger side in this contest. This should be a solid choice as the public bets are coming in strong in favor of the Blue Jackets which are holding 92% of the bets. 

NHL: NJ Devils @ Toronto Maple Leafs - 7:00pm ET

The Devils have been strong offensively, averaging 3.33 goals per game, surpassing the Maple Leafs' 2.96 goals per game. Defensively, New Jersey allows 2.73 goals per game, slightly higher than Toronto's 2.62 goals allowed. Notably, the Devils have a 7-6-2 home record, while the Maple Leafs are 4-5-2 on the road. Additionally, Toronto is on a two-game losing streak, including a recent 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh. Given these factors, the Devils' balanced offense and home-ice advantage position them favorably to secure a victory against the Maple Leafs tonight. The public bets are 85% on New Jersey to win this one.

I like this two legger here. For the earlier game of the two, the Michigan Wolverines are favored by 9.5 points against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Michigan boasts a 13-3 overall record and a perfect 5-0 mark in Big Ten play, showcasing their dominance in the conference. Their offense is potent, averaging 83.2 points per game on 48.5% shooting, with standout performances from players like Danny Wolf, who contributes 12.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. Defensively, the Wolverines allow 79.1 points per game, indicating room for improvement. Conversely, Minnesota holds an 8-9 overall record and is winless in conference play at 0-6. The Golden Gophers average 80.5 points per game on 49.6% shooting, with Dawson Garcia leading the team at 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. However, their defense permits 66.3 points per game. Given Michigan's superior conference performance and offensive capabilities, they are well-positioned to cover the -9.5 spread against Minnesota.

In our second game, The Eastern Kentucky Colonels and Austin Peay Governors, The Colonels have demonstrated consistency this season, achieving a 13-12 record against the spread (ATS). Notably, they secured a 10-point victory over Austin Peay in their previous encounter, highlighting their competitive edge. On the other hand, the Governors have shown strength on their home court, boasting a 10-2 straight-up (SU) record.  However, Eastern Kentucky's recent form and previous success against Austin Peay suggest they are well-positioned to cover the -3 spread in this contest.
