Sports Corner Daily’s 👀 Results from 12/20/2024-12/22/2024

Winners - 4

Losers - 6

In what was a somewhat disappointing weekend of sports, Sports Corner Daily finished 4-6 in our selections. The first round of the college football playoffs was a bunch of uninspiring blowouts for the most part. It started on Friday night with Norte Dame beating Indiana 27-17 with the score making it seem closer than the actual game was. Indiana scored 14 points late in the game to bring the score somewhat close, but Norte Dame led 20-3 after three quarters of football. It was good enough for our under selection to hit, but the game wasn’t all that entertaining. On Saturday Ohio State ran all over Tennessee, winning 42-17. Our experts anticipated Tennessee’s defense giving Ohio State more of a problem, but Ohio State opened up the first quarter scoring 21 points and we knew our under pick was in jeopardy. Texas was able to get another win for us, beating Clemson 38-24. Texas scored in every quarter, and put up 21 in the second quarter to pull away from Clemson. Texas’s defense looked good, limiting Clemson's offense and helped our Texas -12 pick hit. Texas was able to run the ball whenever they wanted and had 2 running backs go over 100 yards. Here is to hoping the next round of the playoffs brings us some better matchups.

In the NFL yesterday there were some great matchups. The Rams were able to hit our -3 selection against the Jets, winning 19-9. The Rams are starting to look pretty good, winning 4 straight and are now first place in the NFC West. Kyren Williams rushed for 122 yards in the win for the Rams. In Miami yesterday, the Dolphins were able to get a win against the 49ers 29-17. The Dolphins aren’t out of the playoff race quite yet and a win yesterday moves them to 7-8 on the season. In Sunday night football, Dallas was able to beat Tampa Bay 26-24. The Cowboys defense was able to cause 2 turnovers from the Bucs that helped them pull off the upset in Dallas. Tampa Bay and the Falcons are battling for the NFC South title and a trip to the playoffs.

Looking ahead, we have three more picks lined up for today as we gear up for another exciting week of holiday sports action.

Today's LIVE Bets:

NFL: New Orleans Saints @ Green Bay Packers - 8:15pm ET

Under 42.5

Analysis:

In Green Bay, frigid weather has prompted Saints quarterbacks to practice in the freezer at Lambeau Field. The absence of key players like QB Derek Carr, RB Alvin Kamara, and Taysom Hill significantly weakens New Orleans' offense. The Packers plan to leverage their running back Josh Jacobs, who has scored nine touchdowns in the last five games, to control the game and build a comfortable lead. Green Bay's strong defense, allowing the eighth fewest points, is expected to keep the Saints' scoring low. The public also likes The Under on this one coming in at 74% in favor of a lower total score.

NHL: Carolina Hurricanes @ Nashville Predators - 8:00pm ET

Nashville +1.5

Analysis:

Nashville is starting to play better hockey and is finally healthy, with star defenseman Roman Josi returning after a four-game absence due to injury, contributing to a victory over Los Angeles. They face the Hurricanes, who are playing their second game in back-to-back nights and are expected to start Dustin Tokarski, who has been inconsistent throughout his career despite one strong performance this season. Carolina has struggled on the road, with a record of 1-5 in their last six games. We are against the public here as just 42% are riding with the Predators here.

NBA: Minnesota @ Atlanta - 7:30pm ET

Minnesota -3.5

Analysis:

The betting line seems low considering Atlanta's poor home record and struggles against Western teams. The Hawks have covered only 1 of their last 6 games overall and 2 of their last 6 at home. In contrast, the Wolves rank 4th in the NBA for defensive net rating over the past 15 games and are returning to playoff form. They are also 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, covering by significant margins. A strong performance is expected from Anthony Edwards which helps lift the Wolves past Atlanta. We are against the public here which as 55% have their bets on the Hawks to cover.
